Laura E. Alterman
Since her licensure in December of 2010, Laura has devoted her legal career to practicing family law in the San Francisco Bay Area. She specializes in representing clients in all aspects of family law, including divorce, prenuptial and marital settlement agreements, paternity/parentage, child custody and visitation, property division, and support. She is adept at representing clients in high asset and financially complex matters. Because every family is different, Laura tailors her approach to each particular client and that client’s unique situation. She encourages settlement through mediation or direct negotiation where possible, and is a strong advocate where litigation is required.
Prior to joining DeLacey, Riebel & Shindell LLP, Laura was an associate at Fox & Bank LLP. She is a graduate of the University of San Francisco School of Law, where she received the CALI award for excellence in community property and was a technical editor for the Journal of Law and Social Challenges. Throughout law school, she clerked for Bay Area Legal Aid in the family law and domestic violence division in San Francisco.
Laura is passionate about public advocacy and pro bono representation. She has been involved in the legal community through various bar associations in the San Francisco Bay Area. She was the assistant secretary and a director-at-large of Queen’s Bench Bar Association from 2014-2015, where she also co-chaired the domestic violence committee and organized educational events for other attorneys. She has volunteered her time as an advocate for state legislation in Sacramento, and as a pro bono attorney for indigent clients through Bay Area Legal Aid and Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights (“LCCR”).
In her free time, Laura enjoys spending time with her son, running, and travelling.
