Maria Garrett de Liévano is a graduate of Wellesley College and the University of Chicago, and earned her law degree from the University of California Berkeley School of Law (Boalt Hall). During law school, she was a research associate for family law professor Melissa Murray and a recipient of the Jim Fahey Safe Homes for Women Fellowship and of the Herma Hill Kay Fellowship. In her second year of law school, Maria helped to found the non-profit organization Family Violence Appellate Project. She sat on the organization’s Board of Directors from 2012 to 2014 and remains the chair of their New Leadership Counsel.
Before joining DeLacey, Riebel & Shindell, Maria was an associate at Sideman & Bancroft. Previously she served as a summer clerk at Whiting, Fallon, Ross & Abel and in the family law division of Bay Area Legal Aid. Prior to law school, she worked at Josiah-Lake Gardiner LLP, a family law boutique firm in London. She is the recipient of a Marshall Fund Fellowship, the Alexander von Humboldt Chancellor Fellowship for American leaders, and an awardee of the Fulbright.
